About the Opportunity
Currently, Orion Construction is seeking an enthusiastic Project Estimator to join our team in Langley, BC on a full-time basis.
In this role, you will be responsible for working on a myriad of estimates from pre-construction, base building new construction, tenant improvements, renovations, offsite infrastructure, and major earthworks. The successful candidate will be providing leadership, working closely with site superintendents in a team environment, and ensuring consistent implementation of systems that optimize the performance and quality standards of Orion.
While no two days will be alike in this fast-paced role, your more typical responsibilities will include:
- Attending pre-tender site visits as required and completing budgeting and scheduling for projects
- Preparing tender documents for projects, reviewing drawings and specifications for completeness
- Identifying and proposing project risk and cost mitigation, as well as the potential for project opportunities and cost savings
- Soliciting trade pricing and compiling a full RFP package
- Assembling accurate, well-organized estimates and proposals in a timely manner and providing clear, detailed quantity takeoffs
- Organizing sub-contractor quotations, ensuring quotes meet contract documents and scope of work and filling in any gaps that may exist
- Providing and maintaining unit pricing and database for material and labour costing
More About You
In order to qualify for this role, you will need 3-5 years of experience as an estimator or estimating-related experience in building/developing construction management, along with a related diploma, degree or relevant certification. Previous experience estimating projects into the $40 million range, along with a proven ability to comprehend tender documents, specifications, drawings, and contractual requirements would be assets. Knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation, including quantity takeoff procedures, trade contractor procurement, interdepartmental functions, pricing, and bid-closing procedures is required.
As our ideal candidate, you will join us with exceptional communication skills to liaise with a variety of stakeholders on every project. You possess a detailed understanding of general construction knowledge, including the specifications, materials, methods, and procedures used through site visits or on-site experience. Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Timberline, Sage 300 CRE, Timberscan, estimating software, and BIM software are strong assets.
